APRIL 17, 2019: INDEX RECOVERS AT GHANA STOCK EXCHANGE

On Wednesday April 17 2018, the Ghana Composite index at the Ghana Stock Exchange finally recovered from days of closing down but as price gainers and losers came to 2 and 3 respectively.

The GCI closed at 2401.11 up on 2396.18 on Tuesday and compared to 2400.35 on Monday.

Of the price loserss, Standard Chartered Bank paced with GHs 0.5 per share decline as its 160 shares were traded at GHs 19 per share as against GHs 19.5 on Tuesday. 

This was a new low for SCB but offer price edged upwards by day's end to GHs 19.49 per share leading to mismatch as bid stayed firm at the closing price.

Ghana Commercial Bank shed GHs 0.013 per share to close at  GHs 3.95 per share after recording deals for 2600 units at GHs 3.96 per share with which it closed the previous day.

However, the gap between offer and bid prices widened resulting in mismatch of GHs 3.9 per share on bid and 3.96 on offer.

The other price drop was by Guinness Ghana as 100 of its shares were traded at GHs 2.18 per share, down GHs 0.01 on GHs 2.19 per share on Tuesday 

MTN Ghana's struggle for a level ground continued on Wednesday but it edged upwards GHs 0.009 per share to close at last deal price of GHs 0.7 per share compared to GHs 0.69 on Tuesday. As if to confirm this, bid price eased to close at GHs 0.6 per share.

MTN Ghana also ended with top traded volume  of 726,700 shares,  bigger parcel than also leading 212,000 units exchanged on Tuesday.

Benso Oil Palmm Plantation recorded the other price gain for the day with GHs 0.003 per share top up to record last deal at GHs 4.13 per share as 4500 shares were traded.

The market also recovered in terms of trade with volume traded hitting 784,212 shares compared to 244,354 on Tuesday and lowly 35,022 shares on Monday.

Trailing MTN Ghana's lead, Cal Bank recorded exchange of 25,500 shares at GHs 0.96 per share then closed firm at GHs 0.97 per share.

The same with Enterprise Ghana in which 22,300 units were traded at GHs 2.18 per share before closing at Tuesday's GHs 0.97 per share.

KENYA AUCTIONS Ksh 13.84bn Treasury Bonds.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) will from Tuesday December 18 to 27th 2018_ auction Ksh 13.84bn worth of fixed income Treasury Bonds with issue date December 17, 2018. According to official statement from the Director of Financial Markets Irene Njiru on Monday December 17, auction will continue throughout the stated period or close once the target money to be raised is reached, whichever comes first. Bid value will be paid for at most by 2pm December 31, 2018 while auction results will be made public on December 28, 2018 after the scheduled closing date. The bonds are being issued at 12.502% fixed interest at an adjusted average price of Ksh 100.468 for Ksh 100 bond. However, price payable after auction results publication will be average of successful bid prices based and allotment will be on first come first served basis. NAIROBI SE's HIGH PRICED EQUITIES.

In the wake of Nigeria's high priced quoted companies posted in this blog a while ago, Henates took a look to at Nairobi Securities Exchange June 23 official list to identify its high priced equities and the outcome was interesting too. Of the 66 companies quoted on the market by June 23, 15 or 22.7% were valued averagely at above 30 times nominal value. A word of caution though: There are two clear differences between the Nigerian stock market list and that of Nairobi: In the Nigerian one most listed companies have par or nominal value of N0.50 as is there is an implied agreement on this. On the other hand, at Nairobi most of the equities do not share common par value, they differ greatly.
