APRIL 16, 2019: STILL LOW AT GHANA STOCK EXCHANGE

On all counts, the Ghana Stock Exchange remained low on Tuesday April 16, 2019 except in quantum trade which closed above average.

Compared to Monday when 7 equities recorded deals for the day, Tuesday's 6 was low but not in terms of traded volume.

On Monday, only 35,022 shares were traded compared to 244,354 shares on Tuesday especially as daily average was around 100,000 shares.

However, Ghana Composite Index, continued to slide shedding 4.17 points to 2396.18 from Monday's 2400.35 unlike 5.48 points drop on Monday itself compared to Friday.

This time there were only 3 recognised price changes and all were downwards.

MTN Ghana actually lost GHs 0.001 per share but technically that amounted to firm close at GHs 0.69 per share because the loss was too minute.

However, this was after leading 212,000 of its shares worth GHs 146,019 were traded at GHs 0.68 per share and it was indeed at this price offer ended the day, pointing at possible decline next trading.

Top price change was Enterprise Ghana's GHs 0.06 per share drop to close at deal price of GHs 2.19 per share for its 100 units traded.

EGL had ended Monday at GHs 2.25 per share and at the end of the day, offer price rallied a bit to GHs 2.2 per share while bid remained firm at the last deal price.

Cal Bank came close to EGL as it shed GHs 0.05 per share to close at last deal price of GHs 0.97 per share compared to GHs 1.02 per share.

A total of 2700 of its shares valued at GHs 2679 were traded and by day's end, price mismatch of GHs 0.97 and 1.02 per share on bid and offer respectively, did not allow for more deals.

Of the 3 price losers, it was SIC Insurance that hit a new bottom with GHs 0.01 per share decline to GHs 0.12 per share.

This was the last deal price while 2nd highest 22,000 of its shares were traded for a total value of GHs 2739 compared to Monday's GHs 0.13 per share.

Of the 2 without price change, Ghana Commercial Bank recorded exchange of 5600 shares at firm GHs 3.96 per share while closing on offer at GHs 4.5 per share. The total value of the traded shares was GHs 22,176.

Then Societe Generale  Bank recorded 700 units exchanged at firm GHs 0.85 per share  and closed on offer at the same price.

KENYA AUCTIONS Ksh 13.84bn Treasury Bonds.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) will from Tuesday December 18 to 27th 2018_ auction Ksh 13.84bn worth of fixed income Treasury Bonds with issue date December 17, 2018. According to official statement from the Director of Financial Markets Irene Njiru on Monday December 17, auction will continue throughout the stated period or close once the target money to be raised is reached, whichever comes first. Bid value will be paid for at most by 2pm December 31, 2018 while auction results will be made public on December 28, 2018 after the scheduled closing date. The bonds are being issued at 12.502% fixed interest at an adjusted average price of Ksh 100.468 for Ksh 100 bond. However, price payable after auction results publication will be average of successful bid prices based and allotment will be on first come first served basis. NAIROBI SE's HIGH PRICED EQUITIES.

In the wake of Nigeria's high priced quoted companies posted in this blog a while ago, Henates took a look to at Nairobi Securities Exchange June 23 official list to identify its high priced equities and the outcome was interesting too. Of the 66 companies quoted on the market by June 23, 15 or 22.7% were valued averagely at above 30 times nominal value. A word of caution though: There are two clear differences between the Nigerian stock market list and that of Nairobi: In the Nigerian one most listed companies have par or nominal value of N0.50 as is there is an implied agreement on this. On the other hand, at Nairobi most of the equities do not share common par value, they differ greatly.
