MAR 29, 2019: NAIROBI: EXCEPTIONAL FRIDAY
Friday, March 29 2019 was an exceptional one for the week in the sense that 4 day continued decline was punctuated by the rise in All share index 1.81 points to 157.66.
The ASI had consistently gone down each day till then easing by 0.93 points on Monday; 1.70 points on Tuesday; 1.07 points on Wednesday before hitting all week low of 155.85 on Thursday, down 0.45 points.
However, the Friday rally only reduced the decline rate of the ASI when compared to previous week. The ASI dropped by 1.46% from last week's closing 160.0
Price gains overwhelmed drops by 21 to 13 with Standard Chartered Bank pacibg gains by Ksh 7.75 per share. It closed at Ksh 215.25 per share after hitting high of Ksh 225 and low of Ksh 205 against Ksh 207.50 per share previously.
1 & M Holdings followed with Ksh 4.50 per share rise to close at Ksh 113.50 after touching day high of Ksh 115 per share and low of Ksh 110 compared to Ksh 109 per share on Thursday.
Other major price gains were Ksh 1.30 per share rise by Equity Group Holdings and Ksh 1 per share increase by British American Tobacco.
Jubilee Holdings paced price drops as it shed Ksh 3.25 per share to Ksh 408.75 per share compared to Ksh 412 per share on Thursday and after touching day high of Ksh 409 and low of Ksh 408 per share.
There were only 2 more price losers. Williamson Tea went down Ksh 3 per share and Total Kenya declined by Ksh 1.05 per share
Traded volume recovered on Friday to 18.602m shares traded in 1082 deals worth Ksh 664.809m compared to just 11.878m shares in 857 deals valued at Ksh 417.681m on Thursday.
Even at that most sectors were relatively dry. Agric sector recorded only 2 equities with trade; just like the Investment and construction sectors.
Safaricom barely remained ahead in traded volume for the day as 5.203m shares were traded leading to total of 56m shares for the whole week worth Ksh 1.5bn at between Ksh 26.95 and 28.20 per share.
The banks contributed Ksh 1.2bn or 41.33% of total all week traded value. On Friday, Equity Group recorded deals for 5.157m shares which upped its all week volume to 18.4m shared valued at Ksh 756m at between Ksh 40 and 43.50 per share.
Almost half of KCB Group's all week 7.2m , that is 3.34m shares were traded on Friday bringing its all week traded value to Ksh 318m
