NOV 22, 2018: VOLUME LEAP AT GHANA STOCK EXCHANGE

There was a market leap in traded volume on Thursday, November 22 at the Ghana Stock Exchange primarily on the back of offload of MTN Ghana's shares and also, relative more the merrier once again.

Traded volume closed the day at 2.523m shares compared to very lowly 90,887 units recorded on Wednesday and even 536,583 shares recorded on Tuesday.

MTN accounted for much of the day's volume as it closed with deals for 2.14m shares; the last deal being done at GHs 0.8 per share with which it also closed the day.

At that closing price, MTN shed GHs 0.02 per share from the previous day's GHs 0.80 per share and looked set to stay there for a while because closing offer was at the same price.

Ghana Commercial Bank also recorded relatively high volume as 302,000 of its shares were traded, the last deal being at GHs 4.75 per share. GCB closed the day though at GHs 4.80 per share, up GHs 0.03 per share from previous day's GHs 4.77 per share.

The Ghana Composite Index continued downwards though under pressure from 7 price drops against 3 gains.  GCB was the lead gainer but both Standard Charteree Bank and SIC Insurance closed up by GHs 0.01 per share.

SCB witnessed deals for only 2260 shares closing at the last deal price of GHs 20.18 per share compared to GHs 20.17 previously.

SIC Insurance too recorded deals for only 500 units at GHs 0.16 per share as against GHs 0.15 previously.

The day's top price loser was Republic Bank as 5500 shares were traded GHs 0.94 per share, down GHs 0.16 followed by Fan Milk in which 500 shares were traded at GHs 8.8 per share, down GHs 0.12 per share on GHs 9 per share on Wednesday.

Just like MTN, Enterprise Ghana also eased by GHs 0.02 per  while closing at GHs 2.58 per share from previous GHs 2.6 and after recording last deal at GHs 2.5 per share.
 
Three other equities closed down GHs0.01 per share each: Cal Bank, Ecobank Transnational and Societe Generale.

As 57,700 shares of ETI was traded, the last deal was at GHs 0.16 per share and it closed there too compared to GHs 0.17 previously.

Societe Generale recorded deals for 3200 shares with last deal at GHs 0.88 per share while CAL Bank closed with 200 shares changing hands at GHs 0.98 per share, but closed at GHs 0.97 per share compared to closing at the deal price previously.

KENYA AUCTIONS Ksh 13.84bn Treasury Bonds.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) will from Tuesday December 18 to 27th 2018_ auction Ksh 13.84bn worth of fixed income Treasury Bonds with issue date December 17, 2018. According to official statement from the Director of Financial Markets Irene Njiru on Monday December 17, auction will continue throughout the stated period or close once the target money to be raised is reached, whichever comes first. Bid value will be paid for at most by 2pm December 31, 2018 while auction results will be made public on December 28, 2018 after the scheduled closing date. The bonds are being issued at 12.502% fixed interest at an adjusted average price of Ksh 100.468 for Ksh 100 bond. However, price payable after auction results publication will be average of successful bid prices based and allotment will be on first come first served basis. NAIROBI SE's HIGH PRICED EQUITIES.

In the wake of Nigeria's high priced quoted companies posted in this blog a while ago, Henates took a look to at Nairobi Securities Exchange June 23 official list to identify its high priced equities and the outcome was interesting too. Of the 66 companies quoted on the market by June 23, 15 or 22.7% were valued averagely at above 30 times nominal value. A word of caution though: There are two clear differences between the Nigerian stock market list and that of Nairobi: In the Nigerian one most listed companies have par or nominal value of N0.50 as is there is an implied agreement on this. On the other hand, at Nairobi most of the equities do not share common par value, they differ greatly.
