AUG. 25, 2018: LAST WEEK: INDEX RISES AT NIGERIAN STOCK EXCHANGE BUT...

For the first time in 3 consecutive weeks, the All share index at the Nigerian stock exchange closed up by 0.45% but, don't be carried away, its an exception that confirms the rule.

Being a product of weighted figures in a basket, the All share index should, by norm, should reflect the mood of the market as far as pricing is concerned.

But alas, 45 price drops and 15 price gains were recorded at the market last week but the All share index at 35426.21 closed up by 0.45% on previous week's close.

Of course, the ASI grew because market capitalisation rose by about the same % and that's normal, the exception that confirms this is that it was all due to N15 per share increase in the price of Dangote Cement.

This was a solo gain of sorts because nearest to it was Nearest Air Service's N0.85 per share gain.

In contrast, of the 45 price losers, Total Nigeria paced with N5.40 per share followed by Okomu Oil, up N3.35 per share and International Breweries with N3.20 per share gain.

Being a 3 day week, no need comparing with previous 5 day week but traded volume and value were fairly high on Friday at 527.74m shares and N4.526 bn respectively but it was on Thursday 1312 deals were sealed as the 3 day high.

UBA topped number of deals; traded volume and value through the period with 978 deals being struck for 332.71m shares, worth N2.676bn, most of that on Friday as 298 deals involved 235.66m shares worth N1.865bn.

At 2nd place in terms of both number of deals and value was Zenith Bank with 937 deals worth N1.667bn but involving 3rd placed 75.99m shares.

Trailing UBA in terms of volume was NEM Insurance in which 77 deals led to exchange of 95.256m shares  with Friday alone accounting for 93.09m shares in 18 deals worth N279.18m. And what's more, ended among top 5 price gainers with the N0.15 per share it gained on Friday.

KENYA AUCTIONS Ksh 13.84bn Treasury Bonds.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) will from Tuesday December 18 to 27th 2018_ auction Ksh 13.84bn worth of fixed income Treasury Bonds with issue date December 17, 2018. According to official statement from the Director of Financial Markets Irene Njiru on Monday December 17, auction will continue throughout the stated period or close once the target money to be raised is reached, whichever comes first. Bid value will be paid for at most by 2pm December 31, 2018 while auction results will be made public on December 28, 2018 after the scheduled closing date. The bonds are being issued at 12.502% fixed interest at an adjusted average price of Ksh 100.468 for Ksh 100 bond. However, price payable after auction results publication will be average of successful bid prices based and allotment will be on first come first served basis. NAIROBI SE's HIGH PRICED EQUITIES.

In the wake of Nigeria's high priced quoted companies posted in this blog a while ago, Henates took a look to at Nairobi Securities Exchange June 23 official list to identify its high priced equities and the outcome was interesting too. Of the 66 companies quoted on the market by June 23, 15 or 22.7% were valued averagely at above 30 times nominal value. A word of caution though: There are two clear differences between the Nigerian stock market list and that of Nairobi: In the Nigerian one most listed companies have par or nominal value of N0.50 as is there is an implied agreement on this. On the other hand, at Nairobi most of the equities do not share common par value, they differ greatly.
