CORPORATE NEWS: DIAMOND TRUST BANK; UNITY BANK, GTB,

DIAMOND TRUST BANK KENYA TO ACQUIRE HABIB, KENYA.

All is almost set for Diamond Trust Bank Kenya to acquire Habib bank Kenya from the parent body: Pakistan's Habib Bank ltd.

According to a formal notice from the company secretary, Stephen Kodunbe, the deal has been finalised and will involve the issuance of 13,281,105 new shares of Diamond Trust Bank to Habib Pakistan at 137.39 Ksh per share.

This will water down holdings of existing shareholders by 4.75% and Habib Pakistan is already a shareholder in Diamond Trust 

However, it is still subject to shareholders approval and approval of the State bank of Pakistan; the Central Bank of Kenya; Competition Authority, Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority, also of Kenya.

Diamond Trust Bank operates in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi and hopes to expand its reach through synergy from the acquisition.

NEW COMPANY SECRETARY FOR UNITY BANK.

Nigeria's Unity Bank PLC has announced the appointment of Mohammed Shehu as its new company secretary.

He has been the bank's deputy company secretary since November 2014.

According to a notice Adesina A Olaosun, Unity Bank compliance group, the appointment was approved at board meeting held on February 24 this year.

Shehu started his career in 1997 with the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation as legal officer; left later to practice law with EL-Thayyib & co then Suleiman D Mere & co till May 2001,

He joined NUB International bank in 2001 as legal officer rising to be assistant company secretary/legal adviser then became of the team of First Inland Bank; Finland Bank and finally FCMB as NUB International changed names through merger.

He left FCMB in 2014 as head of legal unit, FCT/North to Unity Bank in 2014 as deputy company secretary.

Shehu holds LLB from Bayero University Kano and LLM from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1996.

GUARANTY TRUST BANK DMD RETIRES.

The Deputy Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) since 2011, Mrs Cathy Echeozo has retired.

According to formal notice from the company secretary, Erhi Obesedo she had joined GTB in 1993 and became an executive director in 2005 responsible for corporate bank group.

As DMD she was in charge of the institutional banking division.

CENTUM INVESTMENT CO LTD CHANGES NAME

Kenya's listed company, Centum Investment company Ltd has formally changed its name to Centum Investment co PLC.

According to a release from the group chief executive officer, James Mworia, this was sequel to the special resolution passed at Annual General meeting on September 29. 2016.

Also, he added, the Registrar of companies, Kenya has issued certificate under the new name

KENYA AUCTIONS Ksh 13.84bn Treasury Bonds.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) will from Tuesday December 18 to 27th 2018_ auction Ksh 13.84bn worth of fixed income Treasury Bonds with issue date December 17, 2018. According to official statement from the Director of Financial Markets Irene Njiru on Monday December 17, auction will continue throughout the stated period or close once the target money to be raised is reached, whichever comes first. Bid value will be paid for at most by 2pm December 31, 2018 while auction results will be made public on December 28, 2018 after the scheduled closing date. The bonds are being issued at 12.502% fixed interest at an adjusted average price of Ksh 100.468 for Ksh 100 bond. However, price payable after auction results publication will be average of successful bid prices based and allotment will be on first come first served basis. NAIROBI SE's HIGH PRICED EQUITIES.

In the wake of Nigeria's high priced quoted companies posted in this blog a while ago, Henates took a look to at Nairobi Securities Exchange June 23 official list to identify its high priced equities and the outcome was interesting too. Of the 66 companies quoted on the market by June 23, 15 or 22.7% were valued averagely at above 30 times nominal value. A word of caution though: There are two clear differences between the Nigerian stock market list and that of Nairobi: In the Nigerian one most listed companies have par or nominal value of N0.50 as is there is an implied agreement on this. On the other hand, at Nairobi most of the equities do not share common par value, they differ greatly. Then another thing, Nigerian equities are not valued below par, Nairobi ones can and many are so valued.
