TO WWW AT 25.
Let me confess one thing right away: At 63 am one of those who did not know that the year 1991 was that significant to the world until this years 25th anniversary of the World Wide Web aka internet.
I thought for personal reasons no year could be more significant than 1996, 1953, 1990 and 1978. Now I know that there is one year that deserves mention too: 1991.
I was reborn spiritually in 1996; born unto this world in 1953; lost and gained a lot spiritually in 1990 and lost my mother in 1978 in a manner that made me ask God to his face: What have I done to deserve this? I was then just 25.
Now, am discovering www a new as it turned 25 today.
Sure my two daughters can bear witness that I sensed the potentials of the internet, got them their very first email addresses and funded their romance with the internet from an early age but i never saw my self as part of the internet generation. No, I was old school, not too sure of the whole thing at all.
And you know why? Because I was more concerned with its ugly side. The internet made it damn too easy for so called experts to be created; turned too many people into money bags and gave too much wings to more reward for less contribution and it enticed too many with greener grasses outside where they stand with better vision for my comfort.
But reading different www anniversary pieces today has opened my eyes beyond the blinkered one sided to a truly fuller view of it all.
Now I know why it had to be 1991, and why it had to come from the ashes of main frame computers and even set end time for personal computers.
Now I know that it truly represents real freedom, openness and real power that is powerless at the same time.
It represents what God, I think, looks like inside this whole creation of His but from the material point of view.
Throughout creation, He is the only One, the source of everything and the end of everything. Free in the best tradition of freedom any mind can imagine yet He waits always patiently as prodigal sons in their millions take their ego trip down the road to the point of MUST return and then, He does what He always loves to do, rescue the ones who turn from the outward flow back to Him with tears in their eyes.
Sure, unlike Him the internet is full of good for humanity but also full of bad too. The essential thing is that in the internet you find what you set out looking for. That is on this level.
So it is with God too when time comes to raise sights from all of this world, to heights above. We find too what we set out looking for.
So, it is we who must be sure that what we seek is what we truly want.
Thank God for the Internet and all else. Thank God there is always God no matter how down the road we have travelled in our delusion. We meet Him every where we turn. Always there, waiting, watching and again, waiting for He knows that there is always time for everything.
Indeed, thank God there is always God.
