NATIONAL AVERAGE DIESEL PRICE UP 23.3%
By June this year, the national average diesel price was N183.41, up 23.3% on May and it cost a lot more in Borno state than any where else in Nigeria.
According to the monthly diesel price monitor for the month released recently by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the average price per litre in Borno was N221.67, 20.9% above the national average.
It also represented 17.1% increase on average price per litre in the state by June 2015 (N189.29) when Borno came 4th on the top ten scale nationwide.
The Borno state average for June was also 10.8% higher than Kebbi and Taraba states where the average price per litre was N200 in June.
Aside from these three, top ten average price for diesel in June occurred in Katsina (N194); Bayelsa (N192.5); Rivers (N191.11); Niger (N188.33); Kano (N186.67);Jigawa (N186.36) and Bauchi (N185.71).
The National average price of N183.41 per litre in June represented 23.3% increase on the national average for May, that is, a month earlier.
The state with price change that contributed the most to this growth in national average was Osun which recorded N181 per litre in June up 40.1% on May's N129.17 which had in fact been the months lowest.
Katsina too, with its average price up by 38.6% from May's N140 contributed just like Taraba where the month on month growth recorded was 37.9% and Bauchi with 37.6% increase in average price.
Some other states too recorded increases above the growth in national average compared to May levels. They include Anambra ( up 36%); Enugu (35.9%); Delta (29.7%); Oyo (29.3%) and two States, Gombe and IMO, with 27% increase in average price per litre each.
Interestingly, of the 36 States and Abuja, the federal capital territory, only Cross River state recorded decrease in average Diesel price in June when compared to May.
In May, the average price for diesel in Cross River was N188.13 and by June it dropped 3.73% to N181.11.
