AUGUST 14, 2017; BEARISH MONDAY AT NIGERIAN SE.

Today, Monday August 14, 2017, the Nigerian stock market started week 33 on a bearish note as the rise in the All shares index was once again punctuated to close at 37,950.96, down 0.65%.

The pressure downwards came from price drops by 27 equities compared to gains by 18.

The gainers were led % wise by Fidson Healthcare up 4.68% or N0.14 per share followed by A G Leventis with 4.35% or N0.03 gain per share and Linkage Assurance which also gained N0.03 per share or 4%.

In Naira terms, top gain was by Seplat Petroleum, up N9.9 per share or 2.11% followed by Ecobank Transnational which closed up by N2.39 per share.

On the other hand, the margin of drop was wider apart from the higher number of drops. Top drop in Naira terms was in Total Nigeria, down N12.45 per share or 2nd highest 5%.

It was followed by Dangote cement with N5 per share or 2.08% and Guinness down N1.50 per share

In % terms, highest drop was in C & I Leasing down 9.26% or N0.10 per share then Total and Medview Airlines with 5% drop each.

Even though number of deals came to 4113, up 0.83%, traded volume dropped by 10.6% to 316.1m shares and traded value declined by 33% to N4.224bn.

Two equities, Access Bank and GTB accounted for 66.6% of the day's traded value. Lead value was recorded by Access bank  as lead 169.66 m shares were offloaded in 5th placed 255 deals worth N1.772bn.

Access bank had opened with N10.45 per share, hit its day low of N10.3 then hit a high of N10.49; up N0.04 or 0.38% on its opening price.

GTB, on the other hand, eased by N0.01 per share and recorded 3rd ranked 310 deals for 2nd placed 26.17m shares worth N1.038bn.

Their trail in volume terms was followed by FBN Holdings, up N0.11 per share or 1.81% with day high 414 deals for 3rd ranked 17.79m worth 6th ranked N110.14m.

But it was Zenith bank that followed FBN's lead deals with 354 deals for 5th ranked 10.51m shares worth 3rd placed N248.29m just behind, value wise, of Nigeria Breweries' N248.42m in 6th placed 149 deals for 1.29m units.
