JULY 26, 2017: BULLISH, INDEX NEW HIGH AT NIGERIAN SE.

At the Nigerian stock exchange today July 26, 2017, the bulls had a field day as the All shares index rose by 3.4% to 36,740.77, a new high.

This was driven by 31 price gains especially gains recorded by Dangote cement, Total Nigeria and Nigerian Breweries, all of them leading capitalised equities.

Dangote cement continued with its upwards push in recent days with lead Naira gain of N11.50 or 4.93% per share. It had also witnessed 68 deals for 2.439m shares worth 2nd highest N596.8m traded value.

Aided by Zenith bank's N1.60 per share gain, Dangote cement had thus driven premium index up by 4.89% to 2635.91.

The only other index that closed with growth ahead of ASI growth was banking index, up 3.72% to 454.86. All other sectoral indices except ASEM, rose in line with the bullish environment but none was above or equal to the growth in ASI.

Total Nigeria was the other equity with noteworthy gain rising by N11.01 per share or 4.23%. It recorded 29 deals for 0.061m shares worth N16.46m.

The last of the leading gainers was Nigerian Breweries up N7.90 per share and recorded 10th ranked 120 deals for 0.895m units worth 8th ranked N145.3m.

Traded value ended the day 88.7% up at N4.64bn with  no equity recording above N1bn but Zenith Bank paced the market with 3rd placed 423 deals for also 3rd placed 33.28m units worth N838.35m.

Traded volume, on the other hand rose by only 16.2% to 335.3m shares with lead volume recorded as leading 518 deals were struck in FBN Holdings for leading 42.76m units worth 6th ranked N257.92m. FBN Holdings had gone down by N0.31 per share or 2% but this had little effect on premium index.

However, number of deals recorded more than doubled to 5385 with FBN Holdings lead followed by UBA, down N0.33 per share or 3.17% with 480 deals for also 2nd ranked 33.93m shares worth 4th placed N345.8m.

In % terms, the gains were led by Con oil up 10.21% or N3.06 per share and Fidson Pharmaceuticals up by 10.06% or N0.31 per share.

There were 17 price drops led by AIICO % wise with 5.26% drop to N0.54 per share and SCOA, down 4.77% or N0.18 per share.

Top Naira drop was by Mobil oil down N1.50 per share or by 0.59%.

Two price gains were recorded in the ETF segment of the market: VetindETF closed at N23, up 8.18% or by N1.74 and Vetbank rose by N0.27 or 6.38% to N4.50.
