AT NIGERIAN STOCK MARKET TODAY 24/01/2017

At the Nigerian stock marker today, 187,704,002 shares changed hands in 3055 deals but mostly accompanied with price drops.

The major exceptions to price down swing with deals were led by Cement Company of Northern Nigeria as 164,495 units were sold at N4.62 per share, up 5%.


Others were 4.96% increase in UACN PLC as 679717 shares were sold through 41 deals; NPF Microfinance as 676668 units sold in 13deals at N1.12 per share, up 4.67%; African Prudential Registrars up 4.59% as 939008 shares changed hands in 53 deals and Seplat Petroleum as a large parcel of 22,611,083 was sold 4.11% up at N380 with very few takers resulting in only 8 deals.

That was indeed the top volume per listed equity for the day but with 22431987 shares through far more deals (124) United Capital came a close second but with marginal 0.30% price drop.

The major losers during the day's trading especially with deals were 7up Bottling which ended trading 4.99% down even as 119205 units were taken in 31 deals; Custodian & Allied Insurance down 4.97% to N3.63 per share although 536625 units changed hands in 7 deals and Transcorp down 4.71% as 100 deals were recorded for 18569669 shares.at N0.81 per share.

Others include Neimeth International down 4.48% although 22 deals snapped up 1265852 shares; and Fidson Healthcare down 4.17% at N1.15 per share in 12 deals for 526000 units.

The banks and related sectors were very active as usual with continued interest but mostly with price drops. Zenith Bank eased 3.45% in price even as 11,164,237 units were sold in day high 279 deals.

The same with FBN Holdings down 1.39% to N3.55 per share even as 18229265 shares were exchanged through 2nd day high 228 deals.

Just like UBA down 1.16% at N5.10 despite 132 deals for 5614935 units and FCMB Group down 0.75% inspire of 90 deals for 10575850 units.

Of course, there were exceptions even to this trend as Stanbic IBTC closed 4.09% up despite recording only 44 deals for 1027943shares; Diamond Bank up 0.93% along side 89deals for 12932703 shares ; Wema up 3.77% to NO.55 as only 17 deals for 2741950 shares were recorded and Unity Bank up 3.03% on the back of 25 deals for 1065,020 units.
