CORPORATE NEWS: NEW DIRECTORS FOR CONTINENTAL RE AND NCR NIGERIA.

CONTINENTAL RE-INSURANCE NEW DIRECTORS

Nigeria's pioneer and veteran actuary, Chief Ajibola Ogunshola and Mr Emmanuel Brulé have been appointed to the board of directors of Continental Re insurance PLC from November 8, this year

According to Mrs Abimbola Falana, company secretary, they were appointed to represent C-Re Holdings ltd replacing Mrs Nadia Alaoui Fettah and Mr Merrick Wayne Oeschger.

Ogunshola holds Bsc Mathematics from the University of Ibadan and was the first black man to become fellow of the UK Institute of Actuaries in 1973.

He also represented the institute in Nigeria from 1973 to 1996.

He started his career in 1967 as trainee actuary with Eaglestar Insurance company and joined NICON in 1972 as first head of life division.

In 1974 he joined Niger Insurance as chief executive officer till 1985 as the first Nigerian to hold the position.

From 1986 to 2004, he was chairman and managing consultant of Ajibola Ogunshola & co before becoming chairman of Forbes Actuaries Nigeria Ltd from 2005 to March 2015.

He also chaired the board of directors of Punch Nigeria ltd from 1987 to 2011.

On the other hand, Mr Brulé brings to bear his grounding as graduate of Ecole Central de Paris and years of experience in international insurance.

Between 1997 and 2001 he occupied senior executive positions with SCOR then moved to American International Group from 2002 to 2015.

Currently, he is deputy chief executive officer of Saham Finances and a member of the executive committee of the Saham group.

NEW DIRECTOR FOR NCR NIGERIA.

A new independent non executive director has been appointed to the board of NCR Nigeria PLC in the person of Mr Matthew Akinlade.

According to Olufunke Hussain esq, the company secretary, Akinlade is a fellow of the institute of chartered management accountants, member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Institute of taxation.

He worked in various reputable companies over the years including PZ Industries, Record Manufacturers of Nigeria ltd, Nigerian soft drinks company ltd and Carnaudmetal box ltd now known as Nampak PLC from where he retired as finance director in 2003.

He is currently the chairman of the board if directors of Nampak PLC.

KENYA AUCTIONS Ksh 13.84bn Treasury Bonds.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) will from Tuesday December 18 to 27th 2018_ auction Ksh 13.84bn worth of fixed income Treasury Bonds with issue date December 17, 2018. According to official statement from the Director of Financial Markets Irene Njiru on Monday December 17, auction will continue throughout the stated period or close once the target money to be raised is reached, whichever comes first. Bid value will be paid for at most by 2pm December 31, 2018 while auction results will be made public on December 28, 2018 after the scheduled closing date. The bonds are being issued at 12.502% fixed interest at an adjusted average price of Ksh 100.468 for Ksh 100 bond. However, price payable after auction results publication will be average of successful bid prices based and allotment will be on first come first served basis. NAIROBI SE's HIGH PRICED EQUITIES.

In the wake of Nigeria's high priced quoted companies posted in this blog a while ago, Henates took a look to at Nairobi Securities Exchange June 23 official list to identify its high priced equities and the outcome was interesting too. Of the 66 companies quoted on the market by June 23, 15 or 22.7% were valued averagely at above 30 times nominal value. A word of caution though: There are two clear differences between the Nigerian stock market list and that of Nairobi: In the Nigerian one most listed companies have par or nominal value of N0.50 as is there is an implied agreement on this. On the other hand, at Nairobi most of the equities do not share common par value, they differ greatly. Then another thing, Nigerian equities are not valued below par, Nairobi ones can and many are so valued.
